Joel McHale was born in 1971. His father was working at Loyola University’s campus in Rome at the time, and so McHale was actually born in Italy. McHale grew up in Seattle, Washington, and after receiving his degree his masters in fine arts from the University of Washington, Joel set out for a career in the entertainment field.
McHale’s first gig was as a member of the Almost Live! cast, and then as a member of Unexpected Productions, a comedy group based in downtown Seattle. He moved to Los Angeles in the early 1990’s and began earning roles on a variety of television shows and in films, including Will & Grace (2001), Spider-Man 2 (2004), and Lords of Dogtown (2005.) By 2004, however, he’d begun his role as the host of E! Entertainment Network’s show, The Soup, the role with which he is still most associated today.
Aside from his hosting of The Soup, Joel McHale has appeared in dozens of films and television shows, including: Game Time (2005), The Huntress (2005), Mini’s First Time (2006), The Fugitive (2006), The Onion Movie (2008), Robot Chicken (2008), CSI: Miami (2008), The Informant! (2009), What’s Your Number? (2011), and The Big Year (2011.) McHale is jut getting started with his career, and can recently be seen in the films Ted (2012) and on the critically acclaimed television show Sons of Anarchy (2012.)
