In the course of his four-decade career, James Taylor has sold more than forty million albums. Sweet Baby James went immediately triple-platinum for James Taylor in 1970. Mud Slide Slim, which followed, also attained platinum status. The decades to follow brought a string of hits for James Taylor, including “You’ve Got a Friend,” written by long time friend Carole King, and many others: “Your Smiling Face,” “Carolina In My Mind,” “Sweet Baby James,” “Fire and Rain,” “Country Road,” “Mexico,” “Shower The People,” “Copperline” and many more. James Taylor recorded twenty songs written by others for an album in 2008; the album brings James Taylor into soul and country, illustrating his versatility and wide range of talents. In total, James Taylor has earned five Grammies and forty Gold, Platinum, and multi-Platinum awards. In 1998 he was recognized with Billboard Magazine’s Century Award, and in 2000 he was inducted into the Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame. James Taylor’s sales exceed ten million units in the United States alone, and the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences selected James Taylor as its MUSICARES Person of the Year.
